Tibni
From Bible Exegesis
tib´nī (תּבני, tibhnī, "building of YHWH"; Codex Vaticanus Θαμνεί, Thamneí, Codex Alexandrinus Θαμνί, Thamní, Lucian Θαβεννεί, Thabenneí):
The son of Ginath, a man of some position, whom a considerable number of the people chose as monarch. He was a rival of Omri for the throne of Israel after the death of Zimri (1 Kings 16:21 f). This is the only reference to Tibni that has come down to us; a comparison of this passage with the account of Zimri's death (especially 1 Kings 16:15) shows that the length of the struggle was four years. For the period of four years he contended for the throne with Omri (1 Kings 16:22), who at length gained the mastery, and became sole monarch of Israel.
